A reminder for 8’s that we’re doing a Music Literacy check on Tuesday next week. Please do not panic as it’s not “for marks” but so I have a clearer sense of where everyone’s music reading knowledge is. The Literacy Check has been posted in the Pass Through (band hallway) since the first day of school, but I’ve posted a photo here as well.
See you Tuesday
Senior Jazz, have a look at the info here about the CBC Challenge for which we’ve been working on Charolette Cardin’s Confetti – https://www.cbc.ca/music/events/canadian-music-class-challenge
For members of the DWP jazz program, there are a few great jazz concerts to check out at the end of October that you should be aware of:
Chet Doxas with the Cap “A” Band @ the Blueshore at Capilano U
FRIDAY, OCT 24 @ 7:30pm – TICKETS – http://purchase.capilanou.ca (Student Code for cheap tickets is “jazz10”)
BIG BAND MONDAYS at Frankie’s Jazz Club! JILL TOWNSEND JAZZ ORCHESTRA
MON, OCT 27 @ 7:00pm – TICKETS – https://frankiesjazzclub.turntabletickets.com/

Capilano U’s Jazz Program has just announced 3 masterclasses for Saxes, Trumpets, and Trombones on October 25th. Steve Kaldestad (sax) Brad Turner (trumpet) and Ellen Marple (trombone) have all been clinicians and/or adjudicators for us here at Poppy in past years. I’m unable to organize this as a school trip that weekend, but this is a great opportunity for the kids if they can make it. Info on the attached PDFs below

ESPRESSIVO: Summer Celebration
5:30pm, June 4, 2025
Whether this is their first year, or their seventh, we come together this evening to celebrate the work of 322 young musicians who have connected with others and built a community through their involvement in music. Thank you to all our principals, vice-principals and the Langley School District for supporting music in our schools. Thank you to all of the parents for supporting your children’s love of music, both through your encouragement at home and your direct involvement as chaperones, fundraisers, drivers and volunteers. Most importantly, thank you to all the students for choosing to spend your time and energy pursuing music, an art form that can do so much to bring us together as it has this evening. Congratulations to the graduating musicians of 2025 & enjoy the show!

Check back once school starts to see all the info you’ll need for this year.
See you in a few weeks!

Thank you to everyone who came out last night. We have a great year ahead. Sorry for the bit of a list, but a few points and a call for help we wanted to make sure every parent is aware of:
Thanks you all so much for your ongoign support of your child’s interest in music. If you’re able to help with one of our fundraisers, please let us know, and we look forward to seeing you at their first concert this year!
