Local Music Stores for shopping, rentals, and repairs (I recommend these stores to ensure you are getting quality gear and accessories and excellent customer service, especially if there are any issues.)

  • Tapestry Music – recommended for online rentals in August/early September as they deliver and pick-up at the schools, in-person rentals, good repairs, pickup from school available – White Rock
  • Massullo Music – recommended for repairs if you own the instrument, upgrade instruments for advancing players – Burnaby
  • Long & McQuade – recommended for in-person rentals as they are nearby, good repairs – Langley
  • King’s Music – Abbotsford
  • G&G Music – Maple Ridge
  • Matterhorn Music – Surrey

What reeds should I be buying (Clarinets and Saxophones):

  • Beginners/Juniors should buy strength #2.5 of either Rico Royal or Juno. NO SUBSTITUTIONS! A box of 10 should last a year if kids are careful. Cheaper ones  will sound bad and will not last as long, so you’ll have to buy more anyways
  • Rico Royal by D’Addario for Clarinet or Saxophonerico royal box
  • Juno by Vandoren for Clarinet or Saxophonejuno box
  • Advancing Players have lots of options – Vandoren (try a multi-pack as there are multiple cuts), Hemke by D’Addario (saxophone only), D’Addario Select, D’Addario Reserve.

Accessories for your instrument? Consider a metronome, tuner, instrument stand, upgraded mouthpiece, upgrade ligature, better reeds, compact case
