Senior Music Tour 2018 to Toronto & Niagara Falls: May 23-27, 2018

UPDATE: December 15, 2017 – Hardcopy distributed next week

Dear Senior Music Tour Parents and Students:

Details of the Senior Tour to Toronto continue to progress and we are excited to move forward with the trip. We’re very pleased to have parents Vicki Niiranen and Lisa Cowan joining us as chaperones. Our itinerary continues to develop as Ellison Travel & Tour works on our bookings so I will have an updated itinerary for you in the new year.

At the moment, we are currently on track to maintain the budget of $1775 per student. We need to make our next payment towards our trip so by Monday, February 5, 2018, please return:

Earlier payments are greatly appreciated, but we understand that this can be particularly expensive time of year. I will be updating fundraising balances in the coming days and will post that information before the break.

Payments can be made by cheque payable to DW Poppy Secondary School, or cash, and can be split into multiple payments prior to the deadline if you prefer. If making the full payment of $800 prior to February 5 is challenging, please let me know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements.

Note that if you collect RBC rewards points, you can use them towards your tour. That info is here: RBC visa rewards redemption-e

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and thank you for encouraging your child’s love of music!

(PS – So that you are able to plan ahead, please be aware that at this point the third/final payment will be due immediately after Spring break on Monday, April 9, 2018.)

Dear Poppy Senior Music Parents and Students:

We are excited to finally announce details for this year’s Senior Music Tour to Toronto. Music tours not only give the students an opportunity to share their music with audiences who otherwise would not hear them, but also to experience some of the travel is part of most every professional musician’s life. The trip is treated as a “working-holiday” full of great experiences centered on musical opportunities to perform, listen and learn in a fun environment.

Assuming all grade 10-12 members of the music program participate, the trip should cost approximately $1775.00, including all activities, breakfasts and most dinners.  Students will only need to bring money to cover lunches and meals on the airplane. We are working on lowering the price of the trip, but the level of participation will play a role in final costs. Attached is the tentative schedule that will be finalized based upon the participation by the majority of the members of the included ensembles.

Please return the initial permission form distributed in class and via email indicating whether or not your child will be participating in the tour by Thursday, November 9, 2017 along with a $200.00 deposit.  This is a non-refundable deposit as long as there are no major changes to the tentative budget or dates so that we can lock our budgeting process based on committed students.

If you, would be interested in being a chaperone for the trip or have any questions or concerns please contact me at your earliest convenience.
